Is cold fusion real

I read an interesting chapter in a book recently that talked about cold fusion, and joining hydrogen atoms together using a metal catalyst at low temperatures.

I think from memory it was using the metal palladium but I might be slightly wrong - whichever metal it was anyway had a high affinity for hydrogen I believe.

I wasn't quite sure if the experiments that alleged cold fusion had ever been proven or not... does anyone know if this is the case and cold fusion is really possible, or is it just a myth in that if it is possible no-one has worked out how to do it yet?
